Using AI for teachers: before and after
Teachers work many hours at home too. Tests, worksheets, grading. AI can take away the boring work and leave you time for your students. Here I show you the before and after of a typical week. The difference shows up right away.
Why look at the "before and after"
Hearing "AI saves you time" is an empty line. Seeing how many hours it changes is another thing. Using AI for teachers doesn't mean teaching less. It means doing the mechanical part faster and the human part better.
Monday: preparing a test
Before: an hour inventing questions and formatting the sheet. After, with this prompt:
- "Create a [subject] test for the [level] class on [topic]. 10 questions: 5 multiple choice and 5 open. Also add a grading rubric."
Ten minutes, then you check and adjust. Fifty minutes back in your pocket.
Tuesday: worksheets for different levels
You have fast students and others who struggle. Before, you made everything by hand. After:
- "From this text, create 3 versions of the worksheet: easy, medium, hard. Same content, different questions."
In a few minutes every student has the right material for them.
Wednesday: explaining in a new way
A concept just won't land with the class. Before, you searched for examples for hours. After, you ask:
- "Give me 3 different ways to explain [concept] to kids aged [age]: one with a metaphor, one with a real-life example, one with a small game."
Pick the one that works with your class.
Thursday: faster feedback
Grading eats your evenings. AI doesn't grade for you, but it helps you write comments:
- "Help me write a kind, useful comment for an essay with these problems: [list]. Encouraging tone, with one concrete tip."
You check and personalize. The effort drops a lot.
Friday: the human part comes back to the center
With the saved hours you do what matters: talk with students, prepare a different activity, rest. AI does the mechanical work. You are the teacher. That's the real "after".
One thing to remember
Always check what the AI produces. It can get a fact or an example wrong. You are the filter between the AI and your students. The responsibility stays yours, but the effort doesn't.
