Ready-to-use prompts: a before and after comparison
Ready-to-use prompts save you time, but only if you know why they work. Today I'll show you with the before/after method. For each case you see the poor version and the ready one. That way you get the difference, and then you can copy with your head, not at random.
Before and after: the complaint email
Before: "Write a complaint." Out comes a vague, nervous moan. After (ready to use): "Write a polite but firm complaint email to an online shop. I received a broken product, I want a refund. Firm tone, short, 6 lines." The second is ready to send almost untouched.
Before and after: the summary
Before: "Summarize this." Out comes a random summary, maybe as long as the original. After: "Summarize this text in 5 clear points, each one sentence, for someone in a hurry: [text]." The second gives you exactly the shape you want. The secret is to state number, shape and who it's for.
Before and after: the ideas
Before: "Give me gift ideas." Out comes boring stuff. After: "Give me 10 original gift ideas for a 60-year-old dad who loves fishing and cooking, budget 30€." The second is targeted. When you add person, tastes and budget, the ideas become useful right away.
Why ready prompts work
Notice the pattern? Good prompts always have the same building blocks:
- The context: who you are, what the situation is.
- The precise task: what exactly you want.
- The shape: length, tone, number of points.
A ready prompt is already full of these blocks. That's why you just copy it and change two details.
How to adapt a ready prompt to your case
Don't copy blindly. Read the prompt and change only your own parts: the product, the name, the budget, the tone. Leave the structure. It's like a recipe: you add the ingredients, but the steps are already written. That way you don't go wrong and it takes ten seconds.
