Prompt Examples: Step-by-Step for Beginners

A "prompt" is just the message you send to AI. The better the message, the better the answer. In this guide you'll see simple prompt examples, step by step, so you can copy the pattern and get strong results from day one.

What makes a good prompt

A good prompt tells the AI three things: who it's for, what you want, and how it should sound. The prompt examples below all follow that pattern, so you can reuse it for almost anything.

Step 1: Start with a weak prompt

Look at a weak one first: "Write an email." The AI doesn't know who, why, or in what tone. The answer will be generic. Weak prompts are the most common beginner mistake, and the easiest to fix.

Step 2: Add who and what

Now improve it: "Write a short email to my boss asking for a day off next Friday." Better. The AI knows the goal and the reader. Most strong prompt examples grow from a weak line into a clear one, just like this.

Step 3: Add the tone and length

Add a final touch: "Write a short, polite email to my boss asking for a day off next Friday. Keep it under five lines." Now you'll get something you can almost send as-is.

Step 4: Copy these ready patterns

Here are simple prompt examples you can adapt today:

Swap the parts in brackets for your own details, and you're done.

Step 5: Refine if needed

If the answer isn't right, don't start over. Just add: "shorter," "more formal," or "give me two other versions." Refining is faster than rewriting, and it teaches you what good prompt examples really do.
